Mohamed Yassin is a management specialist, development practitioner, researcher and blogger. His work over the last decade has primarily focused on social development, technical & vocational education and training (TVET) and researching peace, conflict and security in Somaliland and Somalia.

Mohamed has a keen interest in social development programmes aimed in building the capacity of disadvantaged families and communities. He set up programmes aimed to move out of poverty for many communities living in the cities of Berbera, Baido, Mogadishu and neighbouring Djibouti. He strongly advocates the African adage ‘It takes a community to raise a child’.

Earlier in his career, Mohamed Yassin worked almost 8 years as social development officer, project coordinator and later as programme coordinator for SOS Children’s Villages International both in Somaliland and Somalia.

Currently, Mohamed works at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as management specialist in Somalia (covering Puntland, Jubaland and Banadir region) as well as Somaliland.

Mohamed Yassin holds a Master’s degree in Peace and security studies at the university of Hargeisa. Prior to that, he earned a Master’s Degree in International Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid from Kalu Institute, Almeria Spain as well as bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UoH- Somaliland.
